Magnificat's Meet and Greet!

As Magnificat kicked off a new year, we were blessed to welcome many new voices to our community of faith. This past week, we hosted two nights filled with fun, community, song, and faith. As we move forward in a new direction to build faith and community, we hope to have continual growth in our ministry as we spread the Gospel and message of Christ to our community here at St. John's! It's not to late to join us on this new adventure!!

Our first rehearsal is coming up soon! Tuesday, September 17th @ 8:30pm in the Blackbox Theater! Don't let this great opportunity pass you by!

Welcome To Magnificat Gospel Choir

Magnificat Gospel Choir Performs at the the 2013 Gospel
 Extravaganza Benefit Concert dedicated to
raising funds for Hurricane Sandy Victims
Magnificat Gospel Choir, still in it's infancy, was created in 2007 with the purpose of providing the St. John's University-Staten Island community with a gospel choir that nurtures and nourishes the Christian values of prayer, faith, spirituality, and community through the gift of song.

Since our birth, Magnificat has acted as one of the leading and most vibrant organizations of St. John's-Staten Island community.  Over the years, we have hosted numerous on campus and off campus events which have promoted the values in which we uphold. We have been blessed to be able to host annual benefit concerts in which we, along with other choirs and performers from the New York metropolitan area, raise money and awareness for various causes. In 2013, we were able to raise hundreds for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

It is through our acts of generosity and service that we strive to bring to life the message of Christianity. As we continue to grow and move to new heights, we hope that you will join us!

Our Mission

The purpose of this organization is to provide the St. John’s University Staten Island community with a gospel choir that nurtures and nourishes the Christian values of prayer, faith, spirituality, and community through song. Our primary goal is to act as a Christian Ministry that builds community with a strong focus on faith and outreach on the Staten Island Campus. We also seek to nourish and utilize the various gifts and talents of students in a way that not only allows them to flourish in the performing arts, but also allows them to use their talents for the greater glory of God. Through unity, prayer, faith, and service, Magnificant stands as an active and vibrant ecumenical ministry that seeks to enhance spirituality for all members of the St. John’s University body regardless of religious standing and denomination.

With unity through community being one of the main components of our purpose, Magnificat works to build partnership with other organizations on and off campus. Within the choir, Magnificat acts as a family built on teamwork, friendship, hard work and responsibility.

Magnificat also act as a vibrant source of faith. Through the gift of song, members of the choir are spiritually nourished and are then called to share that spirituality with others on campus. It is our goal that we nourish the spiritual core of each member and the larger university.

Remaining true to our purpose as a ministry, Magnificat participates in several off-campus forms of Community Service and Outreach each academic year. Following true to biblical text in  the book of James 2:14-16, “faith without works is dead”. It is the duty of Magnificat to work to bring to life the gospel through our actions of generosity to the needy and less fortunate in our community

In an effort to build our ministry on campus, Magnificat performs at University functions, including but not limited to talent shows, cultural celebrations and various campus-wide events sponsored by other organizations.
