Choir Rules and Regulations

Choir Regulations

Choir rehearsals take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30-10 pm in the Blackbox Theater. All members are expected to attend and be prompt for all rehearsals. If we start on time, we will end on time. Attendance will be recorded at each rehearsal. Members who are not able to attend rehearsal must provide a reason for their absence in advance to the President or Vice President. Those who miss three or more consecutive rehearsals will be placed on probation with the organization. During the one month probation period, the delinquent member must demonstrate an improvement in attendance. If he/she fails to show improvement, the member will be subjected to removal from the choir.

During rehearsal, there is to be no eating or texting. Such actions act as a distraction for not only the director, but for other members in the choir. We ask that you be courteous to your neighbors in the group.

We also strive to keep Magnificat a source of positivity and productivity. Negative attitudes and 'lazy' mentalities are not acceptable. Staying true to our mission of being a source of prayer, faith, and spirituality, foul behavior prohibits us from achieving this goal. We ask that all participants act in a mature, hardworking, and faith-rooted manner to uplift and encourage themselves and others.

At each rehearsal, concert, and event, we expect that all members give their absolute best. Our choir is a faith filled unit that works together. Never should the weight of the group be pulled by few while others slack in responsibility.

Rehearsal Responsibilities

Each member is responsible to work not only within, but outside of rehearsals. This year, we have a very vast amount of material to cover for several already booked performances and concert dates. In order to achieve our goals and deadlines in a timely fashion, each member must show dedication and effort.

To better accommodate the choir and to work more efficiently, the President and the Director have agreed to use digital recordings to help voice sections learn parts. At the beginning of learning new music selections, each member will be given recordings, through email, of their voice part that they will be able to take home and independently study. This method must be utilized by all members. Independent study of music is a crucial component of membership in our choir. Each member will be held responsible for knowing voice parts once recordings are provided. Excuses will not be accepted.

To complement the recordings, each member will be provided with a choir folder. The folders, still being property Magnficat Gospel Choir, will be given out and collected at the beginning and end of each semester. When handed out, the folder shall contain all of the musical selections for the semester. If new music is added, each member is responsible to add the music to the rest of their repertoire. Memebers are to be responsible for folders. If lost or damaged, the member will be charged a fee for the cost of the folder and its content.

Choir Dues

Each member of the choir is expected to pay a monthly $5 due. Dues are our way of gaining financial independence from the University. From the collection of dues, the choir will be able to purchase supplies, host parties, and maintain traveling cost and expenses. Dues will be collected by the treasurer at the first rehearsal of every month. If unable to pay dues for a given month, please consult the treasurer prior to the collection date in order to create a payment plan. A minimum of two consecutive months of unpaid dues will result in being placed on a one month probation period in which the member is responsible to pay all owed dues.

Performances and Events

All members are expected to attend and participate in all Magnificat events. If unable to attend, prior notice of absence must be given to the President of Vice President.

All other rules, regulations and guideline are listed in Magnificat's constitution.
